Welcome to the website of the RSL Works Cricket Club

RSL Cricket Club has a new website. Please Click here to be taken to it.

This season saw the start of the women's competition and RSL was very lucky to have some great women's cricketers sign with the club.  They had some great wins during the season and made it throught to the inaugural Women's Grand Final where they were narrowly defeated by Federals.

The U16 team was very strong with a lot of the boys playing in their second or third year in this age group.  They finished up the season as minor champions having lost only one game.  The Grand Final against Federals was never in any doubt with our boys clocking up 144 runs on the Saturday. A great innings by Asher Kanaan, 50no, Sam Jennings, 40 and Roy Graham, 20no. On the second day our bowlers had the game finished by 10am with Tayte Helliwell getting 5 wickets, Tim Smith with 3 and Roy and Joel Robertson with 1 each.

C Grade made it through to the Grand Final but unfortunately lost by a few runs.

B Grade had a good season with lots of experienced players in the team.  The rest of the team was made of U16's every week which gave them some valuable experience.  Unfortunately they were unable to make it past the semifinal.

Our A Grade team was very strong this season too. Captained by Tom Scollay and Graeme Schmidt at the start of the season we were the team to beat. Tom left for Perth before Christmas and left the team in Graeme's hands.  We won the A Grade Grand Final but not without some anxious moments.  Rovers certainly had their opportunity to win.

A big night of celebrations followed at the RSL Club with the U16's and A Grade sides mostly present and a lot of supporters from B and C Grades. Quite a number of mums and dads as well.  A couple of short speeches were made by Tim Jennings (president) and Graeme Schmidt (captain). There was lots of drinking and merriment followed by a roast dinner kindly cooked by the chef at the club on a normally quiet Sunday night.

Club presentation day was on April 9, held at the Long Tan Bar at the back of the RSL Club.  Lots of trophies and presentations were made in each division.  Also lots of thanks were made to the many volunteers who give their time willingly to the club - coaches and assistants, team managers, committee members, scorers, BBQ cooks, bar attendants etc.

Everything is finished now for this season.  Hope to see you all again in September for the start of the 2006-2007 season.
